In my continuing quest to learn how all musical instruments are made, I recently watched another episode of the Science Channel’s How It’s Made series, this time featuring a segment on how pedal steel guitars are made. I’ve heard that they are difficult to play, but I didn’t realize how involved steel guitars really are. Check it out:

Well, it’s a lot easier to make a lap steel than a pedal steel (at least for a do-it-yourselfer) but that’s the cost to have a richer tone!
I think the luthier’s shirt is a nice touch “I’m not a thief, but I steel guitar”.

Who Knew? I always wondered about pinkfloyd as far as the wonderful sounds they made went, but I always thought that it was a lap steel guitar!
